New 3 AM Liquor license in the Neighborhood

April 23, 2009

Neighbors,

The new pizza parlor on the NW corner of Church and Chambers (154 Church) just applied to the Community Board for a wine and beer license, with a 3 A.M. closing time on weekends, 2 A.M. Wednesday and Thursday.

They have a very small space, few tables, NO BATHROOM and already attract a lot of people from the Patriot Bar across Chambers Street. Some of us already have a history of our doorways being used as urinals and worse by Patriot customers and the old Blimpie’s. And this can only increase the late night noise.

The Tribeca Committee just approved these hours (on a split vote). The full Board votes on Tuesday the 28th and will probably go along with it unless neighbors speak up.

We don’t want to stop the business from getting a liquor license, but we are hoping to persuade the Board to limit the liquor-serving hours to 12 A.M. on weekends, 1 A.M. at the latest. That’s apparently the traditional time used for new wine and beer licenses in the area.

If you support our effort and oppose these late hours, please contact us at samiraebrahimi71@aol.com

The best way to let CB 1 know how you feel is to show up and speak at this Tuesday’s public session. (Sign up at the door before 6.) If you can’t do that, at least let us know of your support.
